03.09.09Luminant Academy Recognized by International Awards Program
10th Annual Global Innovation and Excellence Awards
Luminant Academy, located on the Tyler Junior College campus, received two Exemplary Practice awards in the Launching and Alliances categories at the 10th Annual Global Innovation and Excellence Awards presentation sponsored by Corporate University Xchange. The longest-running independent evaluation of corporate learning and talent programs, the Corporate University Xchange Awards recognize outstanding work in corporate learning and talent development.
Founded in 2006, Luminant Academy provides technical, lean manufacturing and leadership training for Luminant's power generation, mining and construction teams. Last year, the Academy, with its state-of-the-art facility, logged more than 130,000 training hours.
“Due to the hard work of all involved with the development of the Academy, our team felt that Luminant would be a strong contender for the Launching award,” said Dirk Hughes, director of Luminant Academy. “I was completely surprised that the Academy was also a finalist for the Alliances award (making the best use of external providers). By winning the Exemplary Practice awards in both categories, this tells us that corporate universities recognize the Luminant business model that has been applied at the Academy.”
From a record number of 160 applicants, 26 organizations were selected as finalists for these prestigious awards, including Mars, JetBlue, MasterCard, Accenture and Textron. International submissions ranged from Russia, Turkey, Argentina, France and South Africa, demonstrating the far-reaching reputation and stature of the Corporate University Awards.
“Luminant Academy's success at the awards ceremony can be attributed to not only the full-time employees of the Academy but to Luminant retirees, contract services and Tyler Junior College in making ours an internationally recognized program,” said Hughes.
