Dallas –
Employees at Monticello Power Plant in Mount Pleasant, Texas are celebrating a new plant safety record – 18 years without a lost-time injury. This significant milestone is the equivalent of more than 9.7 million safe work hours, which is also company record for a Luminant facility.
“This level of safety excellence is a testament to our employees’ sustained commitment to safety,” said Mike Williams, Luminant chief fossil officer. “The men and women at this facility are actively engaged in continually enhancing the safety of their work environment and as such, look after each other with implicit and absolute dedication.”
The safety streak began in July 1992. Since then, the plant’s more than 200 employees have consistently put safety first, participating in peer safety observations and studying industry best practices as a way to constantly improve existing safety programs.
“Complacency is not accepted at Monticello,” added Williams. “This is a facility that is always seeking to learn and improve upon already impressive practices.”
Monticello Power Plant has a legacy of safety leadership. In 1983, the plant set a national record of 3 million safe work hours without a lost-time accident. Later that year, the plant also became the first coal generation station to reach 4 million hours without a lost-time injury.
Monticello is a three-unit, lignite-fueled power plant located in Titus County. Completed in 1978, the plant has an operating capacity of 1,880 MW.
