omanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant Achieves New Safety Record
DALLAS –
Employees and contractors at Comanche Peak Nuclear Power Plant recently achieved a significant safety milestone that is a site record: 18 months without a DART injury (days away, restricted or transferred). This means in the last year and a half, no employees suffered an injury that required missed work or restrictions from performing their job responsibilities.
“We achieved this site record because our employees continue to make safety their highest priority,” shared Rafael Flores, Luminant’s chief nuclear officer. “I’m proud to say that we work together each and every day to ensure our team goes home injury-free. We look out for ourselves, and we really care about the safety of our co-workers.”
The safety streak began in May 2009. The plant’s more than 1,000 employees and contractors consistently focus on zero accidents and injuries by participating in peer safety observations and studying industry best practices to continuously improve existing safety programs.
Comanche Peak is a two-unit, nuclear-fueled power plant located in Somervell County. Completed in 1993, the plant has an operating capacity of 2,300 megawatts.
