Do you know a recent high school graduate looking to gain skills for a lifetime? Luminant Power Track, Luminant’s new career development program, is offering highly motivated students the chance to earn a full scholarship toward an associate degree in power plant technology, with an opportunity to “test drive” a career in the energy industry.
This innovative new program is currently recruiting applicants for its first class of 30 students which will start the program in fall 2011. Those with a proven aptitude for hands-on electrical or mechanical work are eligible to apply for a full Luminant-funded scholarship to participate in a groundbreaking two-year associate degree program at Tyler Junior College. The Luminant Power Track program also includes a paid summer internship between the first and second year of school and the opportunity to foster a relationship with Luminant that could lead to a well-paying, full-time job at a Luminant power plant in Texas upon successful completion of the program.
“Luminant is an exciting, yet stable company tasked with a critical job – powering Texas – and we are looking forward to meeting the sharp students who are up to the challenge,” said Mike Williams, Luminant chief fossil officer. “We believe this program will help these students not only gain the skills they need for a lifetime, but provide them with the opportunity to become our next generation of power plant leadership.”
